{"id":308,"date":"2016-07-11T18:34:40","date_gmt":"2016-07-11T22:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.juliafreeman.ca\/blog\/?p=308"},"modified":"2016-07-11T18:34:40","modified_gmt":"2016-07-11T22:34:40","slug":"government-data-shows-foreign-buyers-make-up-five-per-cent-of-metro-vancouver-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juliafreeman.ca\/blog\/2016\/07\/government-data-shows-foreign-buyers-make-up-five-per-cent-of-metro-vancouver-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Government data shows foreign buyers make up five per cent of Metro Vancouver market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Foreign nationals make up 5.1 per cent of home buyers in Metro Vancouver, according to the first set of real estate transaction data released by the provincial government today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This confirms data you\u2019ve provided us for several years through our monthly member market poll.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe wrote the Minister of Finance earlier this year asking him to again track the residency of home buyers in BC and we applaud the government for taking action on this issue,\u201d Dan Morrison, Board president said.<strong> \u201cThe housing affordability challenge we face is of critical importance to all of us in the region and it\u2019s important that this debate be based on facts. We look forward to the province releasing larger data sets in the future to further inform this conversation.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The government will continue to release this data each month. The current set covers transactions between June 10 and June 29, 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The data is collected when owners register their property at the Land Title Office and the Property Transfer Tax is paid. Individuals must disclose if they\u2019re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or if their citizenship if not Canadian.
